• Fly in and out of different airports: land at Kochi and leave from Trivandrum to avoid driving back the same route.
• Leave hill stations early: start the Munnar to Thekkady drive by 9 am so you arrive in daylight.
• Avoid night driving on hill roads: ghat roads around Munnar and Thekkady get foggy, and landslides are possible during heavy rain (June to August).
• Houseboat timings: most houseboats check in around 12 noon and check out around 9 am. Plan the drive to Alleppey to arrive by noon.
• Periyar boat ride: take the first morning trip for the best chance of seeing animals; tickets sell out in peak season.
• Pack a light jacket: Munnar mornings and evenings are cool even when the coast is hot.
